Who We Are
“Our mission is to provide homemade ice creams and hand crafted desserts to our friends and local families and become their favorite dessert shop with a personal touch. It is our goal to establish who wants homemade ice cream made within miles of their home and eventually become a fixture in the community.“
Mommom’s was dedicated to owner Matthew Stachecki’s grandmother and opened in Spring of 2015. After Matt graduated from Delaware State University, wanting to branch out with the family business his grandparents started with The Little Grocer in Dover, DE in 1984; he decided the vacant building attached to their family store would be the perfect place to start! The location of Mommom’s was always rented out for office space by the family, but had been vacant for about a year in 2014 when Matt decided to draw up a business plan, a floor plan, and a menu for the new shop. It didn’t take long to come up with a name, as Matt’s grandmother, Jane, was a huge supporter of the idea and always wanted to open an ice cream shop of her own. When The Little Grocer began, Jane carried eight flavors of ice cream they used to scoop for customers, but as their business grew, they lost the space for it. After six months of renovations, in late 2014, Mommom’s was ready to open and it’s been growing ever since. Starting out exclusively as a Hershey’s Ice Cream retailer, Mommom’s has now expanded to carrying 35 flavors, with a dozen different homemade ice creams available daily, made in-house!
Mommom’s goal is to become a household name in Dover for small-batch, handcrafted desserts, making each of our homemade flavors in-house with as much local and seasonal ingredients as possible! Fruit smoothies, homemade waffle ice cream sandwiches and hand packed ice creams are all available daily as well! The emphasis of Mommom’s is based on human interaction, hiring mostly local school-age kids for their first jobs and serving the local community with delicious desserts that encompass what small, local businesses are all about.
